Ashwini to present bouquet of morning raags on March 15 2020 in Auckland

After winning the hearts of Aucklanders in 2017, India's leading vocalist Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande is coming back to Auckland following many requests from connoisseurs.

One of India's most celebrated contemporary musicians, Ashwini will sing at a unique, morning concert featuring morning raags on March 15, 2020. This is a first of its kind classical music concert for Auckland. Accompanying Ashwini will be noted sarangi musician Sangeet Mishra from India. Australia's Bobby Singh will play the tabla and a young Auckland artiste will provide tanpura accompaniment.

Ashwini sings in the traditional Jaipur-Atrauli gharana’s style and is today one of its leading lights. Raised in a musical family and taught initially by her mother, she went on to study under the tutelage of other great masters while yet pursuing her academic studies. She holds a PhD in biochemistry from the prestigious Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai.

She has won a string of national and state awards in India ever since she began performing on the concert stage at the tender age of 16 and sung at venues across the world. She has also been part of several innovative music-teaching projects in Scandinavian countries and other institutions in different parts of the world.

Sangeet Mishra one of the leading sarangi exponents in India today. Trained in the Benaras tradition, Sangeet comes from a long line of sarangi masters from India's ancient city of Varanasi, and has performed with leading artistes in India and around the world.

Bobby Singh is a disciple of tabla maestro Aneesh Pradhan and is one of the most sought-after musicians on the Australian world music circuit and the first choice for musicians from India touring Australia and New Zealand.

As well as being unique in being a morning concert featuring morning raags and accompanied by a sarangiya, a rarity these days, the ticket price includes a post-concert traditional Indian vegetarian lunch.

Please mark your calendars for Sunday 15 March 9-15 am for the Ashwini Live in Auckland at the Green Bay High School Auditorium, Godley Road, Green Bay, Auckland.
